Q. What is the capacity of our
storm system?
A. For a given area, the storm sewers generally have a much
larger capacity than the sanitary sewers. This is because the flow generated
from a property from stormwater runoff is significantly larger than the
sanitary sewage generated, and the range of flows within a storm sewer system
are much higher than that of a sanitary sewer system. Please note: storm systems
are not designed to handle all storm events! In large events, surcharging into
the streets is expected. The streets hold the water until it can enter back
into the storm water system. The Stormwater Model Calibration and Analysis
Project will determine the capacity and effectiveness of our storm sewer
system.
