Q. 1.60 Research has revealed that sanitary storage capacity may have been installed since 2001 in the Plymouth Road corridor. Is this correct? What impact DID this have on the Flow data recently presented by OHM and on the reduction of Sanitary Backups since 2001? (Burdick 83, 12/30/13)

The City is not aware of any projects along the Plymouth Road corridor since 2001 that have added sanitary storage capacity.

Frank, may I follow up on this with some clarifying questions?  When you say “in the Plymouth Road corridor” do you mean in or adjacent to Plymouth Road, or do you mean anywhere on the northeast side of town? Is there a specific location that you are thinking of? There is some detention at the Georgetown/Bluett area, but that was installed very long ago – late 60’s or early 70’s, I believe. Are you referring to this?

The detention consists of a 58” x 94” arch pipe installed in 1969, which can handle 149,012 gallons of storage, and is still in service.  In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s the area still experience numerous basement backups, which resulted in this area becoming one of the FDD study areas.  So, it appears that this detention was insufficient to prevent basement backups.

I doubt that this pipe is empty prior to a rain, so therefore its storage must be somewhat less.
How deep is it? basement backups of storm water or raw sewage?

I wonder what expense it adds to other in-street plumbing projects, as it must be worked around and avoided whenever the road is dug up to replace other pipes.

What a curious shape
