A suggestion for anyone that is interested in reading the 2001 SSO Report:   Go to the Pittsfield Library and ask for this report.  It's actually quite easy to find.  It's on the bottom shelf directly across from the check-out counter.  It consists of 2 white binders.  This is the full report and it is much more informative than just the on-line version.  It is worth an hour of your time to sit down and review both binders.  As you may recall, Bill Higgins brought them to a CAC meeting a few months ago.  Also, a member of our CAC was a part of that SSO Task Force and may be able to answer any questions that you may have.

I did read thru most of one binder and some of the Black and Vetch 1997 report.  I could not check them out (reference copy only) and bring to meeting tonight.  Interesting on page 107, of SSO how close he ranking of FDD and upgrade/storage was.  Am attaching that page.

Having started to read the 2001 report it looks to me as if the CAC has been wasting time. I will have to do some deeper reading, but it looks as if the FDD for Morehead was estimated to be 3.4 M at 70 % participation. 100% participation would run the estimated cost to 4.8 M (2001 dollars) making the FDD the most expensive choice for Morehead.

I assume that the Relief or upsize/storage requirements would be the same for Morehead. Would it be possible to just adjust numbers for inflation?

This is very interesting. I'd like to learn more from OHM about effectiveness and costs. Thanks for posting it. This is very useful information that fires my imagination.

If it works, and has a similar cost, and gets fewer people upset, and stops sewage back-ups......

Recall that the Advisory Committee in 2001 did not make recommendations solely on the basis of cost.  They were concerned with the impacts to the community from placing storage tanks in the available open space, which as I understood it, comprised largely of parks, woodlands, natural areas, etc.

We should and will examine some alternative storage methods such as "linear storage" and shafts as options to a large foot-print tanks, that might satisfy both the needs for storage and the desire to preserve natural areas.  Yes - we will examine the costs and effectiveness of these options as we perform the alternative evaluation.
